Recognized as the “Machine” in BMX racing, with his signature smile and unparalleled strength, Maris Strombergs made history when he won the first ever Olympic Gold Medal in BMX racing back in 2008 while also being crowned World Champion and taking the win for the European Championships in the same year. Strombergs demonstratedboth his commitment and skill when he won the Gold once again during the 2012 London Olympic Games. Maris is not only the BMX Olympic Champion but also the first to win it twice in a row. Maris maintains a healthy lifestyle and disciplined training schedule and credits much of his success to his Father’s active involvement and introduction of BMX racing at his young age of 6. By age 9, Strombergs had already won his first World Championship. From this point on, Strombergs’ life and the BMX racing industry would never be the same. Strombergs was even recognized as Latvia’s 2nd Sexiest Man Alive in 2011 and blushes anytime someone reminds him of it. More recently, Strombergs was awarded not only Latvia's Athlete of the Year in 2012 but also Latvia's Most Popular Athlete of the Year. Accolades at this level, brings much credence and attention to the sport itself, which is welcomed. When he’s not on the track, Strombergs makes regular visits to local elementary schools to share with young people the importance of eating healthy, staying active and doing the right things even when no one is looking. While, Strombergs enjoyed a successful 2012 Season he is not quite ready to rest. He's already busy-at-work training with his head down in preparation of the 2013 season.
